Xenocryst is like entering a cerebral cloud of atmospheric pop. Layered loop arrangements reverberate against intricate vocal harmonies giving the impression that the track has an entire chorus producing backup vocals. But what sounds like a Sci-Fi themed choir, is actually a product of a unique amalgamation of world music inspiration and an impressive depth of range in Mekele’s vocals.
Interested in experimenting with song production as a form of sound healing, Mekele explores different sound frequencies in an attempt to stabilize imbalances in the body and mind. The effect produces an overall haunting and introspective listening experience. Without enforcing a direct interpretation, the track is as overtly sexual as it is ethereal.
